What is an APPG

All-Party Parliamentary Groups

All-Party Parliamentary Groups (APPGs) are informal cross-party groups that have no official status within the UK Parliament. They are not like Select Committees though they can hold an inquiry along the lines of a Select Committee.

They are run by and for Members of the Commons and Lords, although many groups involve individuals and organisations from outside Parliament in their administration and activities.

APPGS meet together, relatively informally, to discuss a particular issue of concern. APPGs are either country based, e.g., the APPG on Zimbabwe, or subject based, e.g., the APPG on Anti-Semitism – the topics reflecting parliamentarians’ concerns.

A list of current APPGs can be seen here.

There are over 360 on topics from “Afghanistan” to “Zimbabwe” and “Accident Prevention” to “Zoos and Aquariums”.
